ABOUT THE FILM

In this artful and thought-provoking film, highly regarded experimental filmmaker Abigail Child follows four young African-American men in urban Cleveland, Ohio, who all live life “on the downlow” (the DL).  Uncomfortable with being termed gay, the men in this film straddle two seemingly-incompatible worlds.  Billy claims that the best sex of his life was with the mother of his two children, but he lives with a man.  A self-described thug, Ray prefers drag queens.  Kerwin desires not only a beautiful woman on his arm, but a man as well.  And Antonio, an ex-con who picked up the DL lifestyle while incarcerated, is dating George, whose teenage girlfriend doesn’t know that George, too, is on the DL.  Together, these men’s stories offer a rare window into both the allure and struggle of the DL lifestyle.

“Boy I Am” (2006)
A look at the experiences of three young Female-to-Male transpeople addresses the way conversations about trans issues can run into resistance from the many queer women who view transitioning as a “trend” or as an anti-feminist act that taps into male privilege.

Come out and join us at the ongoing Sex+++ Documentary Film Series! “The Aggressives” will be screening for free at Hull-House Museum on Tuesday, May 26th, 7PM. We’ll serve delicious snacks and brilliant conversation! All are welcome — whether you’re a free speech advocate, an AIDS worker, a progressive pastor, a sexuality activist, a radical feminist, a sex worker, a pornographer, skeptical about our politics and aims, or just someone who likes talking about sex! Sexy prizes awarded at every screening. Please note that cameras are not allowed at these screenings.

ABOUT THE FILM

This striking and illuminating documentary explores and exposes the secret subculture of New York lesbians living as “aggressives.” Often mistaken for men, these women range from pretty tomboys to the blatantly butch, boldly creating their own identities outside of society’s established sexual categories. Stripped of pretense, they lead us to fashion shoots and prison cells to reveal their work lives, love lives and social lives, including the underground “ball” scene where lesbians compete for lead “AG” status. The resulting documentary is the culmination of five years spent uncovering the “no apologies” lifestyle of six self-defined aggressives as they define their dreams, share their most intimate secrets and reveal their deepest fears. This heartfelt all-access film exposes the AG community in all its unabashed, rough-edged glory and explores its impact on gender identity in the modern world.

Something we don’t see as much of in movies as I’d like.. masturbation scenes!

Cory Silverberg has put together a great list of a bunch of them. Check it out here.

If you are a lady and want to get very un-lady-like with other women this weekend, you must check out this awesome play party on Saturday, May 16th at Mephisto’s Liar (6410 N Clark).

Seriously.

Hello and welcome to another edition of “Weird sex in the Animal Kingdom!”

Here’s a chilling tale – of an ant species made entire of females who clone themselves to reproduce! Quite the opposite of our lascivious chimp-tastic relatives, eh? Wink wink.

Go ahead! Read some more about asexual lady ant clones.

SEX POSITIVE
pro-SEX, pro-QUEER, pro-KINK

a free documentary film series for people who like sex
curated by Clarisse Thorn

Come out and join us for our sixth sex-positive documentary and discussion!  “Bi The Way” will be screening for free at Hull-House Museum on Tuesday, April 14th, 7PM.

RSVP by calling 312.413.5353.

Please note that cameras are not allowed at these screenings — in particular, pictures of the audience are not allowed.

ABOUT THE FILM

“Bi The Way” intimately follows four young (ages 15-29) lives in different parts of the country, testing the waters of our country’s tolerance and its concept of “bi” through interviews with the makers of “The OC,” Ani DiFranco, sex researchers, Dan Savage, Angelina Jolie, teens, politicians, activists, Alan Cumming, a cage fighter, “change” therapists, the director of “Planet of the Bisexuals,” college students, religious leaders, musicians, historians, the guys at Burger King, and the list goes on.

This documentary highlights young people who are “under the radar” — questioning their sexuality without really drawing attention to it, or even necessarily being aware that they’re doing it — and uses the main characters’ stories as a jumping-off point to explore the larger issues of bisexuality: What does the word bisexual really mean? What are the stereotypes of and challenges to a bisexual lifestyle? Can any label on sexuality really describe a person? And where is our society’s sexuality headed?
